Frequently Asked Questions
What is Derma Roller?
The Derma Roller is a premium skincare tool with a roller head made of high-quality titanium needles designed for microneedling. This process creates tiny micro-channels on the skin’s surface to stimulate collagen and elastin, helping improve common concerns like acne scars, fine lines, uneven texture, enlarged pores, stretch marks, and uneven skin tone.
Microneedling with a Derma Roller is a safe and effective way to support firmer, smoother-looking skin. With consistent, properly spaced sessions and proper aftercare, many users see visible improvement in the appearance of scars and fine lines while skin texture and radiance become more refined over time.
Designed for at-home use, the Derma Roller is simple to use and only takes a few minutes per session. When used with controlled pressure and proper cleaning, it delivers a comfortable, routine-friendly experience while supporting steady skin progress.
Derma rolling is widely used by skincare enthusiasts and clinics because it is practical, accessible, and results-focused. Whether you’re starting your journey or maintaining your progress, the Derma Roller is a reliable option for long-term skin improvement at home.
Is it safe for beginners?
Yes, it’s safe for beginners when it’s done correctly. Derma rolling is not about pressing hard or doing it often. It’s about right tools, the right needle size, and giving your skin time to recover.
Key safety rules beginners must follow
- Always sanitize the derma roller before and after use, and never share it with anyone
- Use a high-quality roller with rust-resistant needles to reduce irritation and skin trauma
- Start conservative and avoid forcing pressure, the roller should glide, not scratch
- Do not roll over active pimples, irritated skin, open wounds, or inflamed areas
- If you’re sensitive, numbing cream is optional, but correct technique and aftercare matter more than numbing

Do Derma Rollers Really Work?
https://www.healthline.com/health/beauty-skin-care/do-derma-rollers-work
Does it hurt?
Most beginners are surprised, it’s not as painful as they imagine. The sensation is usually a light prickly feeling or mild pressure, and it depends on three things: needle length, the area you’re treating, and how heavy your hand is.
What to expect
- Sensitive areas can feel more intense, especially around the upper lip and jawline
- If you’re pressing hard, it will hurt more and that’s not the goal
- The tool should glide with controlled pressure, not scratch the skin
Why tool quality matters
Low-quality rollers with blunt or uneven needles can scratch and irritate the skin, which feels more painful and can lead to redness that lasts longer. A high-quality roller with sharp, rust-resistant needles gives a cleaner, smoother pass.
What about bleeding?
For at-home use, bleeding is not required and not the target. A tiny amount can happen for some users, but it should not be excessive. If you’re bleeding heavily, that’s a sign the session is too aggressive.
Quick safety reminder
Always sanitize before and after use, and never roll over active acne, irritated skin, or open wounds.
How does derma rolling work?
Derma rolling or home microneedling works by creating tiny, controlled micro-channels on the skin’s surface using fine needles. These micro-channels support the skin’s natural renewal process. Over time, this can help improve the appearance of acne scars, uneven skin, and visible pores when sessions are done correctly and spaced properly.
What those micro-channels do
- Supports natural skin renewal: the skin goes into repair mode, which helps support a smoother-looking surface over time
- Helps skincare absorb better right after: products can sit more effectively on freshly treated skin, but aftercare should still be gentle
- Improves gradually: this is not instant. Consistency plus recovery time is what creates visible changes
What it can help improve the look of over time
- acne scars and uneven texture
- visible pores
- fine lines and overall skin smoothness
- uneven tone and dull-looking skin
Key reminder: derma rolling is not about doing more sessions. The roller should glide with controlled pressure, then you give your skin time to recover.

What needle size should I use for my skin goal?
Choose needle size based on your goal and your skin’s tolerance. Bigger is not automatically better. The right size is the one you can use safely, consistently, and with proper recovery.
Derma Roller vs Derma Pen™ (quick difference)
- Derma Roller: covers larger areas faster and is great for routine consistency
- Derma Pen™: lets you control depth more precisely and target specific areas with more accuracy
Either way, the needle length guide below still applies. Technique and recovery matter just as much as the tool.
Quick needle size guide (0.25mm to 2.00mm)
- 0.25mm (Skin maintenance): best for routine support and helping skincare absorb better. Minimal downtime for most users.
- 0.50mm (Scalp and hair support): commonly used for scalp routines and overall skin refresh with proper spacing and hygiene.
- 0.75mm (Moderate concerns): for users working on moderate texture concerns who already have experience and good aftercare habits.
- 1.00mm (Recommended size): our most recommended size for customers targeting visible improvement in the appearance of acne scars, pores, and uneven texture, when sessions are spaced properly and recovery is respected.
- 1.50mm (Severe concerns): for advanced users only. Requires longer recovery and stricter technique.
- 2.00mm (Clinic-level severe): typically used under professional supervision. Not recommended for beginners or casual home use.
Key reminders
- Start conservative if you’re new. Many users begin with 0.25mm to 0.5mm to build proper technique and tolerance.
- If you jump too deep too soon, the most common result is irritation and dark marks, not faster progress.
- Do not treat inflamed acne, irritated skin, or open wounds.
If you’re buying just one size: choose 1.00mm. It’s our most recommended all-around option for visible improvement in the appearance of acne scars, pores, and uneven texture, as long as you space sessions properly and let the skin recover.
How often should I use it?
It depends on your needle length and how fast your skin recovers. The rule is simple: the deeper you go, the longer you rest. Do not microneedle again if your skin is still red, sensitive, or irritated.
More sessions do not mean faster results. Controlled sessions plus full recovery is what leads to visible improvement over time.
Do’s and Don’ts before and after rolling?
Do’s
- Cleanse thoroughly and keep skin clean and dry before rolling
- Sanitize your derma roller before and after each use
- Keep aftercare gentle and use sunscreen daily
Don’ts
- Don’t roll over active acne, irritated skin, or open wounds
- Don’t press hard or over-roll the same spot repeatedly
- Don’t use harsh actives or expose skin to heat and sun right after

When will I see results?
Some people notice a fresh glow once the redness settles. The real changes come from a structured routine with properly spaced sessions, where the appearance of acne scars, pores, and uneven texture becomes visibly more refined over time.
Every skin is different and results vary, but many customers start noticing early changes within their first few sessions when they stay consistent and let the skin recover.

Who should NOT use derma rolling?
Do not derma roll if your skin is currently inflamed, irritated, or compromised. Microneedling should only be done on calm, healthy skin to avoid making irritation worse.
Avoid derma rolling if you have:
- Active inflamed acne, cysts, or infected breakouts
- Cold sores or an active skin infection
- Eczema, psoriasis, or rosacea flare-ups
- Open wounds, cuts, or sunburn
- A history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring
- Any condition or medication that affects healing or increases sensitivity
Important note: The Derma Roller we offer is a personal skincare tool intended for cosmetic use and is not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
If you are unsure, always consult a skincare professional or a skin doctor before starting.

Is redness, peeling, or itching normal after rolling?
Yes. Mild, temporary reactions can happen after derma rolling, especially for first-timers.
Common normal effects:
- Pinkish to rosy redness that usually settles within 24 to 48 hours
- Mild itchiness, light peeling, or dryness as the skin recovers
These are usually normal and manageable. The key is proper aftercare so the skin calms down smoothly.
Aftercare reminder:
Keep skincare gentle, avoid harsh actives if your skin feels sensitive, and use sunscreen daily on exposed areas.
If you have medical concerns, ongoing skin conditions, or you are unsure if your reaction is normal, always consult a doctor or skincare professional before starting or continuing any microneedling routine.

Why did my skin look darker after rolling?
This usually happens when the skin gets irritated and then exposed to sun, heat, or friction, or when the session is too aggressive or too frequent. It’s often a sign that the skin barrier needs more recovery time, not that you need stronger sessions.

How long can I use the derma roller before replacing it?
It depends on how often you use it and how well you care for it.
Lower-quality rollers may dull quickly, which can lead to more irritation and hygiene risk, so we always recommend using a high-quality tool.
Our derma rollers have an expiry date of up to 2 years when stored properly and unused. Once opened and used, replacement depends on frequency and condition.
For hygiene and performance, we recommend replacing your derma roller every 6 to 12 months if used frequently (3 to 4 times per month), or sooner if it has been dropped, damaged, or no longer glides smoothly.
A sharp, intact roller gives cleaner passes. A worn roller can cause more irritation, so replacing on time protects both results and skin safety.
If you want uninterrupted progress, having a backup microneedling tools or device is a smart move. Explore our premium selection HERE
